Response to gracenoto
I had a lot of trouble with stage fright and general nervousness when I first started thinking about performing. The two things that helped me the most were these:
1. Character. Really invest in your character. Whether it’s the character you want to portray in a particular act, or just your burly-q persona, really take the time to get into the proper headspace before you perform. For...
gracenoto asked: Hi! I just started performing burlesque last year, with my college troupe, and I have severe stage fright that makes me shake onstage--noticeably to the audience. Do you have any tips that would help me get over this, as well as any general burlesque tips? Thanks!
Ask a burlesque performer!
The ladies of Pasties & Paddles, Spokane’s favorite burlesque troupe, are offering a new twist on TMI Tuesday— ask us anything about what it’s like to be a burlesque performer! Ever wondered what it’s like to be onstage? What it’s like to be onstage without clothes on? How we come up with acts, make our costumes, or get pasties to magically stay on? Ask away!

It’s nearly holiday season, and some of you may be tasked with coming up with entertainment for a party. Having been to a lot of my dad’s company functions since I was a kid, I’ve watched many of his staff and colleagues on stage with an act that seems to come out of nowhere.
Burlesque is still pretty trendy, and you may be inspired to break out something cheeky to “Santa Baby”....

I need more people to share the love and add inspiration - especially burlesque that’s not commonly represented elsewhere (like the Queer burlesque link I posted a day or so ago).
Let me know your email address and I’ll add you :)
queer + burlesque = queerlesque!
hello, i’m hoping you can help me put the word out about a new tumblog on which i am working about queer burlesque aka queerlesque. the goal is to support and entertain queer burlyqers and our fans and also hopefully be a source of information and inspiration. i define both words, queer and burlesque, very broadly. i agree that burlesque is however a person understands it for themselves, as...

Creatrix Tiara - The San Fran Plan - Touch (by Creatrix Tiara)
Ever since I’ve heard this song I’ve always envisioned a performance involving a wrap of lights around me. When in San Francisco I decided to see if I could make this a reality. Maxx Kurzunski responded to my plea and made me this MAGNIFICENCE - it was hard not to have the costume distract me! Thank you SO MUCH Maxx...

Creatrix Tiara - The San Fran Plan - Anatomy of a Burlesque Dancer [NSFW] (by Creatrix Tiara)
Part tribute to Annie Sprinkle (who I had the pleasure of working with while in San Francisco), part FU to frustrating comments made to me and others about how a burlesque performer is “supposed” to look or act. Some of my narration includes direct quotes from other performers.

Each individual rhinestone put in place with tweezers and then hotfixed in place for 20 seconds…
I now have so much more respect for all the burlesque dancers and artists out there that make their own outfits. Dita Von Teese’s costumes over 10,000 rhinestones each individually placed, you amazing woman! I have done about 150 today and it is so time consuming!!
